The UNC Eastern Campuses Hazard Mitigation Plan Update is Underway
We need your input! Respond to the public survey to share your concerns about local hazard risks and ideas for mitigation.
And we need your input! This plan covers the main campuses of the following UNC System schools:
- North Carolina State University
- East Carolina University
- Elizabeth City State University
- Fayetteville State University
- North Carolina School of Science and Math
- North Carolina Central University
- UNC-Chapel Hill
- UNC-Pembroke
- UNC-Wilmington
This plan update is required for the participating schools to maintain eligibility for pre- and post-disaster mitigation funding from FEMA. The plan will also help us identify hazard risks, understand vulnerability, and develop ways to proactively reduce risk on our campuses.
To kick off the planning process, two virtual public meetings will be held to discuss the plan update process, review the identified hazards, and gather feedback from the public. We’re interested in your experiences with past hazards and your ideas for reducing risk. These public meeting sessions will be held on the following dates and times:
- Monday, September 29th at 1pm: Register Here
- Tuesday, September 30th at 5pm: Register Here

If you can’t attend a meeting but still want to contribute to the planning process, we encourage you to complete the public survey (see website link or QR code).
To learn more about the planning process and to register to attend these meetings, visit the website. On this site you will find information about upcoming and past Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee meetings, public meetings, a link for the public survey, draft documents, and other mitigation planning resources.
